This year Ecuador is going through particularly difficult times following the severe earthquake last April. As a reminder, on April 16, 2016, Ecuador was hit by an earthquake of 7.8 on the Richter scale, affecting the coast region from Pedernales to Esmeraldas with an epicenter close to the village of Muisne. The latest official report informed of 660 deaths, dozens of missing and 4,600 wounded. 25,000 people who have become homeless are housed in public facilities. Some towns and villages have been destroyed to more than 80% and a state of emergency has been decreed throughout Ecuador.
Of course our association does not have the means or the structure to intervene in a plan of aid or reconstruction following this catastrophe, but what we can do is organize the distribution of the Christmas baskets in one of these Cities affected by the earthquake, and invite families who have been directly affected by this great tragedy (families that have lost the little they had).
There are about 1,200 families in need in the city Pedernales, but for now we are at 400 baskets. That is why we appeal to your generosity to help us accomplish this year’s goal. |
